As the NMR Facility Director I interact with the research faculty in the capacity of consultant/collaborator to ensure that the maximum benefit is obtained from the instrumentation available. Instruments under direct supervision currently include Bruker AM-400, Varian VXRs-300, and Varian Inova-500 NMR spectrometers. The supervision involves overall fiscal administration, all instrument maintenance/repair, all user training, applications consulting and development where necessary, service spectroscopy--including experimental design, data interpretation, and reporting of results as needed. Research activities are in the area of high-resolution NMR of liquids and solids, and include the application of a wide array of modern one and two dimensional techniques to solve the structure determination problems encountered in the areas of Organic, Inorganic, Physical, Analytical, and Biochemistry.
In July of 2003, I took an active role in the maintenance and administration of the Biomolecular NMR Facility, which includes two 500 MHz instruments, one 600 MHz instruments, and one 800 MHz instrument. My work in the biomolecular NMR facility has included the installation, calibration, and implementation of a cryogenic probe system on the 600 MHz spectrometer. Responsibilities for routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs for these instruments are also part of this aspect of my work, as I assist and work with the full-time manager of these facilities.
